He's What We're All About

Our Mission

We're All about Jesus

Our mission is to be a people of God who are committed to “Loving Jesus, Becoming Like Jesus, and Sharing Jesus” with the world.

Matthew 22:36
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God will all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it. Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Matthew 28:19-20
Jesus said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

These two verses define our mission as Christ-followers. We use a simple statement “Loving Jesus. Becoming Like Jesus. Sharing Jesus.” to help us remember this mission and to clarify our focus on these core elements.

Our Vision

This is what we see for Alexandria Covenant Church

Our hope is that everyone at Alexandria Covenant Church is becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

If you’re seeking to know if the Bible is true and God is real, stick around. We are convinced you will discover that Jesus is the answer for your life. If you believe that Jesus is who He claims to be, and did what the Bible says that He did, don’t miss out on the life God intends for you to live. The Christian life is all about following Jesus. As we walk with Him, wherever He leads us, we can be certain we will become more like Him in every way, through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Our Values

Here are 6 essentials, or core values, that drive the ministries of alexandria covenant church

1. Bible Based

We accept the Bible as our instruction manual for living out our faith and conduct in the context of a community of believers.

We are under the authority of God’s Word, the Bible. We no longer live by our own authority but we submit to the teaching of the scriptures as the rule of our lives for faith, conduct, and community.

2. Grace

We accept and love one another just as God has accepted and loves us.

We are transformed by His Spirit and grace. We first must admit and turn from our sin and receive Christ’s forgiveness and new life. Then, by the same Spirit and grace, we live by faith, beginning to look more like Jesus in our everyday lives.

3. Unity

We seek to be unified in one heart and one mind under the authority of Jesus Christ in all decisions relating to the mission and ministry of ACC.

We are connected as a fellowship of believers. We believe that everyone who follows Jesus Christ is united in Jesus Christ. We are called brothers and sisters in Christ. Our fellowship extends beyond the walls of our congregation to all who share the love and mission of Jesus. Our church is connected with the Evangelical Covenant Church who we partner with in mission around the world.

4. Missional Intent

We are committed to preaching the gospel in word and deed in hopes of reaching lost people with the message of Jesus Christ.

We are committed to the whole mission of the church. God calls us to love him and others wholeheartedly. He also calls us to go into the whole world to proclaim God’s Good News and to make disciples of Jesus, baptizing them and teaching people to obey everything Jesus has commanded. Following Jesus’ example, we also want to minister to those who are sick, poor, hungry, lonely, or oppressed.

5. Spirit Led

We will depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance and direction as God graciously uses us to be His ambassadors.

We consciously depend on the Holy Spirit. The Spirit lives and moves in and among believers, and gives gifts to each believer for the benefit of others. We continually invite the Holy Spirit to produce fruit in our lives, resulting in Christ-like character and an ability to be used by God to divinely touch the lives of others.

6. Respect

We recognize the value and importance of each and every person.

We have freedom and flexibility within the context of Biblical love. We are free to disagree on things which have been divisive for Christians. We want to keep the main thing the main thing. Our goal is not that we would all be the same, but that real unity be expressed in the midst of our differences.

Our Beliefs

Statement of Faith

In doctrine, we affirm the central teachings of the historical Christian church, including one God as three persons: Father, Jesus Christ his Son (fully God and human), and The Holy Spirit who is present in the lives of believers.

While we hold tightly to the essential doctrines of the Christian faith, we hold the non-essentials with charity and humility toward each other. As a Bible-based, gospel-centered, relationally-driven church, we strive to keep things simple and the main thing the main thing—Jesus!

Covenant Affirmations

The Evangelical Covenant Church seeks to form and nurture communities that are deeply committed to Jesus Christ and passionately engaged in Christ’s mission in the world. The purpose of Covenant affirmations is to make clear the values and principles that have guided the Evangelical Covenant Church since its founding in 1885.

  • We affirm the centrality of the word of God.
  • We affirm the necessity of the new birth.
  • We affirm a commitment to the whole mission of the church.
  • We affirm the church as a fellowship of believers.
  • We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.
  • We affirm the reality of freedom in Christ.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the center of all of life. He is both the source and goal of all of life. The Apostle Paul puts it this way “For from him and through him and to him are all things.” Romans 11:36 He is the living center of our faith. Not just a person in history, but the eternal Son of God who is alive today through the resurrection from the dead. He invites us to share in His life at the same time; he is the greatest man, the greatest teacher and greatest healer who ever lived.

Centered in Christ

Our Transformation

On the evening of August 15, 1946, thirteen people gathered in the home of E.F. Hallblade to officially organize the Alexandria Mission Covenant Church. They soon purchased a lot on the corner of 13th and Fillmore for a church building.
