Sundays, 9:15 am
September - May
The purpose of Journey is to help middle school students develop a solid foundation for their faith in Jesus Christ, rooted in biblical teaching. Completing Journey will not confirm a child’s salvation, nor will it confirm their membership into the local church. Journey is not to check off a "spiritual box" but to help the students build an authentic relationship in Christ. It is to help the students answer Jesus as He asks all of us "Who do you say that I am?" in Matthew 16:15. We want to help the students boldly proclaim Jesus as Messiah, Son of the Living God our Lord and Savior!
The format of Journey is a combined interactive lecture for both 6th-8th graders taught primarily by Chad Melton in room 130. In addition, other middle school leaders assist every week to help lead small group discussion and teach this class. Journey is based on a three year teaching cycle. Year One is an overview of the Gospels called “Christ” and Year Two is an overview of the Old Testament called “Character”. Year Three is a discussion of church history, affirmations and creeds called "Church".
There will be minimal homework assignments with this curriculum. It is expected that students turn in a total of 8 sermon notes throughout each year. Sermon note forms can be picked up in the Youth Room (Room 130). Regular attendance is required.
8th grade Journey students graduate on Confirmation Sunday where they share their testimony of faith in Christ with the congregation.
Location: Youth Room (Room 130)
